Abie + Dilshan Melbourne Wedding Photography

This year the much anticipated ‘Melbourne Cup long weekend’ became something special for a very different reason – Abie and Dilshan’s amazing weekend of wedding celebrations, and I’m so excited to be able to share all their beautiful moments with you!

The weekend was split over two days, two photo shoots and three events, all with gorgeous locations and bold colours being incorporated into their design details, making it all the more special! The celebrations started on Sunday morning at the Sri Shiva Vishnu Temple, styled by ‘Red Temple Events’, with elegant delphinium flowers as centre pieces that matched perfectly with the gold, white and red themed affair.
Before even laying eyes on her, Abie surprised Dilsh with an all important wedding gift for her husband to be – a stunning IWC watch, a piece the groom had only ever dreamt of wearing, with his surprise and delight clearly evident for all to see! Abie looked breathtaking in both Sari’s selected especially for her by her Mother, as she took her place next to Dilshan for the traditional Hindu Ceremony which would tie the couple and their families together on their new journey as one, with the priest present from London to perform the rituals. Before the day was over, I took some time out to photograph Abie and Dilsh alone, using Carrum beach as our backdrop for some beautifully serene shots of the much in love couple.

Day two was the Church wedding, an event that will constantly catch my eye. They always seem to have a certain flair; they’re elegant yet relaxed, sophisticated but fun. And this wedding just reinforced all those idea’s and more. The amazing style of this couple was evident throughout the whole panache celebration held at St John’s Anglican Church in Toorak, and I was lucky enough to capture it all!
It begun at Dilsh’s house, where his groomsmen and close mates settled in for some pre wedding fun in their favourite soccer tops, before getting dressed into their all important wedding outfits. Continuing with his theme of traditional with a touch of personality, Dilsh had bought his groomsmen some matching funky patterned socks and individual cufflinks for the boys that showcased their favourite things; from Ironman, to Spiderman and even a tooth and scalpel, fittingly for the dentist!
Next I was off to see Abie and her bridesmaids, who spent the previous night and morning of the wedding being pampered in an apartment close to the venue. Abie looked an absolute vision as she stepped out in her spectacular white wedding dress with a perfectly detailed veil,  and everything there on in was a perfect fairytale waiting to be told – from meeting her dad, at the steps of the Church, who had flown in all the way from London to be by her side and walk her down the aisle on her special day, to the first look shared between Abie and Dilshan and ending with the exchange of vows and signing of the registry, leaving not a dry eye in the room.
As the breathtaking ceremony came to a close I whisked the newlyweds and their bridal party off to Birrarung Marr, by Melbourne’s Yarra River, for one more photo shoot before the Reception. As great as the scenery was, it was the fun loving couple, and their nearest and dearest who made this shoot what it was, always up for anything and with smiles that never left their faces, it was a breeze to capture some wonderful shots!

Finally, it was time for the much awaited wedding reception, which was nothing short of incredible! This is how they did it in true Abie and Dilsh style…they did what they loved, invited the people they loved, ate the food they loved, and played the music they loved.
They had not one, but two, best men and maids of honour –because they could, used Vogue Wedding and Events to deck out Leonda by the Yarra’s reception venue with bright, loud and colourful bouquets of flowers to compliment the outfits of the bridal party and guests – because they could,  had BLVD’s same day edit and my slide show of wedding photo’s playing throughout the night – because they could, performed many entertaining choreographed dances – because they could and even surprised Abie with a boys’ rendition of her favourite Beyonce songs – because they could…and there didn’t have to be any more reason than just that! Their wedding day was a perfect and romantic one, simply because it was them!

Abie and Dilsh, I have no words to describe the weekend I had with you guys! It was so much fun, and not once did it feel like I was ‘working’! Abie, it has been said by everyone, but I will say it again – you were a dazzling and beautiful bride with an air of love that seemed to follow you and Dilsh right throughout your wedding celebrations – something that was effortlessly captured in every single shot! They say that a photo stops a moment from running away – so guys, these are your moments for you to cherish for a lifetime together! Enjoy!
